kodama : the stuttering stroll

On October 3, 2009 – KODAMA made the final presentation to a small audience that ventured out Appelboom at La Pommerie, France to see and hear.

We chose a series of locations with images we collected from the area – and exhibited them around the room. Mixed in-between were artifacts we gathered along walks, as well as constructed from found materials. Koz prepared a hanging assemblage of papers which were projected upon by the simple video footage we gathered.

The public had the opportunity to explore our exhibit and to witness a small final performance we made. I played a wire-stringed device that I made from a piece of Rowan wood. Kozy made a strange assemblage of an old bed, and strung-up cluster of wood and wires. We started and ended the performance by wandering around the audience. Afterwards the audience was invited to play our installation which was connected to several speakers with a moving delay pattern. That sound is being played as you look at this page right now.

Outside we constructed a small ‘gnome house’ which somehow symbolically was a returning theme as our ‘in-situ’ recordings and mushroom gathering often evoked the antics of such creatures. Inside we played sounds that were somehow related to our gnomic cousins.

Here is a selection of images from the event:

SOUNDS are from THE AUDIENCE PLAYING our ‘INTERACTIVE’ INSTALLATION in the center of the room.
